Bhau Mama

Just two days back i heard the sound of airplane and the first thought which entered in my memory was of "BHAUMAMA".......

Bhaumama was my grandmother's elder brother. ( He was my father's mama actually but i used to call him by same name . ) His full name is Purushottam Keshav Shenvi Kakodkar. He was a Member of Parliament in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. You can read more => Purushottam Kakodkar The link between airplane and him is because of the fact that was imprinted on my mind when i was kid by my granny 'MAEE'. When MAEE had mentioned to me , just once , that Bhaumama travels in airplane , i had fixed it in my mind that in every airplane that goes , there must be Bhaumama inside . ( how foolish i was ! ) Every time the airplane went i used go running out of the house yelling 'Bhaumama .. Bhaumama...'.

Bhaumama .. though he was there in my life for a very short time ... i remember him very very clearly. The first thing that comes to my mind is his white khadi clothes and the peculiar fragrance that he used carry on his khadi clothes . He used to always wear khadi long sleeves shirt and pant , black boots , thick black color framed spectacles ( he was the same every time and i cannot imagine him in any other outfit ) . Whenever he used to come in our house , he used get his ambassador car which was another attraction for me.

He used to enter house with wide smile , I always in front to greet him , then MAEE ( he used to call her by name KALYAN ) and then Baba & others. Every time he came home , i remember him getting chocolates(foreign :) ) and story books . He was one person who spoke a lot about education from his heart and was one of those people who have goddess 'sarswati's varadhast' ( though that time i used to not understand what he used to say ).

He has directly or indirectly influence on my personality , my command on language( esp Devanagari ). He was the one to encourage me to learn Sanskrit when i was in 2nd standard . I remember very clearly ... Once when we had visited his flat in Panjim , very small flat with hall which was more like his office having office table , a sofa in front , gallery on one side facing the road and exactly opposite kitchen ( used to have every time the 'vah taj tea' used to call it dip dip ). He had one photo frame of 'OM' on one wall and Gandhiji and Indira Gandhi on other walls. He had made me read the first sloka in sanskrit

I had read it for the first time with his help and second time without his help. That very moment he had given Baba many small slokaas which he had , and told me to learn them along with their meaning . And the slokaas were learned by one method in 3 steps : 'PATH' , 'TONDPATH' and 'MUKHODGAT'. No fumbling for words ..

I did it very fast and he was impressed and he gave more slokaas to recite. Then he told me to learn 'aadhyay'(lessons) from 'bhagwat geeta' .. aadhyay 13th , 15th and the longest 18th . I had learned them all and participated in many competitions. I remember because of this competitions in which i took part , i had got rid of stage fear.

You will find much to read about him in books because he was a freedom fighter . But what i have written here are my childhood memories of Bhaumama. I consider myself very lucky to have him in my life.

On Father's Day

Didn't know what to give dad n was not interested in giving same old gifts like shirt piece , watch , shoes n all that. Gave this and he liked it a lot! There are some spelling mistakes bcz I am not good in marathi writing. See if you people like it.

BABA

आज म्हणे father's day
मला काय दयावं तेच कळत नाही आहे
मला जे वाटलं तेच लिहीलं आहे
असाच म्हाझा बाबा आहे

TOUR

Hii

Had gone hibernating somewhere , hence cud not write :-)

Anyway I went for a refreshing tour of 5 days in Maharashtra. We started on 8th and were back on 12th.

That day actually we had planned that we will start from margao at around 8. But you know na ...... we are sushegad goenkars ;-) . Started at 10.30 .. heights ... forget tht

DAY 1

We reached to Kolhapur in the evening at about 4 and boarded into a Hotel in the city. Then soon after tea we went to Narsobachi wadi . It took us around an hour to reach there. There is Shri Narasimha Saraswati Mandir which is located at the banks of river Krishna.( let me tell u the river site is beautiful )

The mandir is nice and not very crowded although there was a queue. But we soon reached in front of the murti and had darshan. Nearby the murty there was one person who was on loudspeaker giving pravachan.

I actually don't like to listen to pravachan but during that period of time whatever i heard i liked it , may be bcz he was telling experiences which we all have sometime or the other. We also went to Kurundwad which is like at 15 minutes distance from Narsobawadi.
I was hungry( when I am not ? ) so we returned to the city at about 9 and had dinner. Kolhapuri food is really spicy but very delicious. We returned to the Hotel at around 10.30

DAY 2

Next day morning we went in one of the famous hotels Gokul in Kolhapur. I had decided first only that I will have Kolhapuri Misal pav and mom also wanted to taste. Had heard a lot about it from Maharashtrian people. After 15 minutes I had lost patience . The waiter had served everyone with their dishes ( my other family members had ordered Masala dosa...... wow ) and I was sitting there with so many rats playing Bhangda in my stomach and watching everyone eating Masala Dosa. After more 10 minutes he served me Kolhapuri Misal. And I did not see left nor right . It was looking so good , cudnot wait to taste it.

Basically Kolhapuri Misal is made out of sprouted lentils in spicy^spicy gravy ( called as KAT ) with toppings like onion , tomato and kurkurit chiwda , sev. ( See I do research on food ).
And then I was feeling nice because everyone had finished eating their so called masala dosa and I and mom were tasting yummmmmmmmy spicy ...... Kolhapuri Misal Pav .

DAY 3

In Kolhapur, we went to New Palace Museum. The Building looks magnificent and is architecturally beautiful which has influences of fusion of Hindu and Jain architecture.

At the Entrance there is a lake surrounded by land which is enclosed with fence. There are deers and ostriches which you get to see from a distance of 1meter. Deers look really cute when they run with their tail flying in the air. he he

This museum is basically collection of possessions of Maharaja Shahaji Chhatrapati . There is fine collection of costumes , jewellery , embroidery . It also has one of the best collection of show pieces which is made out from elephants ivory tooth, legs of zebra, skin of tigers and leopards. Feel bad for the animals but the centre tables or bird cages made are really amazing and worth seeing.

Also, the weapon collection is excellent. Not only simple swords but each with different kind and shape depending on the animal for which it is used for. There is also one of Aurangzeb's swords also.

And one more thing. You should see the Darbar Hall . It is mind blowing ya . The ceiling has been carved so minutely and unique designs . Also it has been maintained beautifully, with exceptional care . Have you seen the darbar in the movie bhool bhulaiya ?? Its much adoring than that.

We also went to the Ambabai Temple and Rankala Lake in evening. Did not take photos but. At night we went to Pune and boarded in some Hotel.

DAY 4

Next day early morning we started to go to Shirdi. In Pune , let me tell you each person tells you different directions if you ask for address. The Driver got lost in city and we were taking rounds of the city and reached Shirdi two hours late by taking a shortcut(so called by a person there) which turned out to be longest unending route of my life. All curses to that fellow. ;-P

We went in the temple in the evening. Last time we had gone to Shirdi it was not so commercialized . This time I do not know , I found it difficult. For keeping sandles, for taking flowers and whatever we take in pooja ki thali , there were these agents running here n there to attract people to their shop. Also inside the temple where there was a huge queue , there was a small shop opened which gave people cold drinks , ice-creams if you are tired . People were drinking cold drinks n throwing bottles there in the temple itself. Did not like this part.

The queue was really unending. There were 3 lines in a big hall first , then via 2 staircases down , two up , one more hall and then darshan.
But the thing is after all this hectic , when u see the beautiful " murty of Saibaba " you tend to forget everything and regret for nothing.( Cudnot click photo but, this one is from web) .

( will continue later.....)

Goa .... Heaven

It was on 24th , yesterday... I got up early for morning walk. Got ready , was thinking whether I shud wear sweater. But I like to wear it thts y I wore n came out. N what a site….!! Aquem had drowned in the fog. It made me feel really cool , nice and heaven like. For nearly half an hour I was walking through the fog , well at some places I cud literally feel the dew falling on my face … I could hardly see anything ahead..

I have always been a fan of winter. I love to sleep with my gojdi, with fan on full speed even in winters…… Actually all these days temperature had increased in Goa , so I was sad… no more winter , no sweater , no cool breeze , no shivering , no cold cream ……… I was very happy yesterday .

On the way to panjim , in the bus I was just admiring Goa and white beauty….. The site on the bridge was amazing ! Our bus was moving with either sides having literally white curtains !! It was beautiful and I was trying not even to blink my eyes n save everything in my memory…. Don’t mind to see Goa as Heaven always….. will love it

LOVE...............

My friend had mailed me this video . I saw it and it was one of the most amazing things i had ever seen... really touching and proving that everyone has a kind heart..... even a dangerous leopard who never feels pity for anyone..............

I just thought i should share it with everyone......

" A female leopard hunts a pregnant female baboon. While the leopard was dragging the baboon, the baboon delivers a baby. Leopard leaves the hunted mother and starts taking care of the newborn baboon. Watch this amazing video from National geographic. "

This leopard who is hungry for any creatures blood....... finds a female baboon who is pregnant and hence helpless ......... attacks and kills her.
But while dragging the female baboon , the mother delivers this tiny thing... which is damn cute.. unknown of the fact that its mother is killed by leopard ....

But as soon as leopard sees the baby baboon , you can actually observe the change of emotions......... from cruelness .. to motherly affection....!! Leopard leaves the hunted mother and starts taking care of the newborn baboon. A must watch guys.... !
